In Conversation With… David Rhodes
This is the full length interview with David Rhodes. A successful singer songwriter in his own right with his second record, Rhodes, covered by the team in episode 46. David is arguably more recognisable as a gun for hire guitarist, strumming for the likes of: Paul McCartney, Lefty Wilbury (Roy Orbison), Kate Bush, Talk Talk, and Tim Finn.
Despite this list, David is probably best known for his long term collaboration with podcast favourite, Peter Gabriel. Joining the backing band during the sessions for Peter Gabriel (Melt) and has remained as Gabriel’s chief most advisor since.
In 2014 he released Rhodes, a crowd funded trio project with Charlie Jones (Page and Plant, Goldfrapp) and Ged Lynch (Peter Gabriel, David Gilmour). The three recording with Chris Hughes (producer - Tears for Fears, Adam and the Ants) and Tchad Blake (mixing - Crowded House, Peter Gabriel). Most of our interview is centered around this album.
Although initially marred by technical difficulties, most of the interview is captured well. That being said there are some occasional drop outs which don’t affect the great answers David gave us.
It was phenomenal to speak with David, having admired his work for so long, often attempting to recreate his melodicism (it is a word) and sonorities.
